How to Disable Command Prompt on Windows 11

Command Prompt is crucial tool of Windows. It can be used for completing different Windows tasks using the commands. Command Prompt is useful but do you know that disabling Command Prompt can reduce the chances of getting unwanted changes to your PC. Disable Command Prompt on Windows 11 – Using Group Policy Editor

Group Policy Editor can be used to disable Command prompt on Windows 11. Let us check the steps to disable CMD on Windows 11.

1. Open the search bar in Windows 11 and type in Local Group Policy Editor.

2. Then, click on the option Edit Group Policy from the menu.

 

3. Type and move on to this path:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System

4. In the 4th step, open and double-click on the Prevent access to the Command Prompt policy option.

 

5. Select the Enabled option.

 

6. Click Yes in the drop-down menu.

 

7. After this, press the Apply button, then press the Ok button.

 

Once you have closed the Command prompt window, restart your PC. Once you restart your PC the changes will be saved and CMD will be disabled.

Disable CMD on Windows 11 – Windows Registry Editor

Another method to disable command prompt in Windows 11 is to use the Windows Registry method. Once you disable the CMD, apps and users will not be able to access the Command Prompt.

1. In the first step, Press the Windows Key + R button. This will open up the Run dialog box. 

 

2. Type this: regedit and then press the Enter button.

 

3. This will open the Windows Registry Editor on your Windows 11 PC. After this type this to reach the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

4. Right-click the Windows Key on the left and select New > Key.

5. Give System name to the new key.

6. Right-click on the System key and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

7. Name the new DWORD value as DisableCMD. In the Value data field, enter 2 and click the Ok button.

8. Once you have made all the changes, restart your PC. After a restart of your PC, open the command prompt window again. You will see a message: Your command prompt has been disabled by the administrator. 

9. In case you wish to enable the command prompt again or revert back the changes, set the DisableCMD value to 0 in Step number 7.
