Beware, Remove These Google Chrome Extensions Today

Google offers a wide range of browser extensions for more productivity and other functionalities. Google is quiet about malicious apps and extensions. Recently it has removed around 34 malicious Google Chrome browser Extensions from the Google Chrome web store.

These extensions had more than 80 million downloads and were known to push spam or unwanted ads. One such malicious extension o is PDF Toolbox. PDF Toolbox was used by many people and a detailed report published in the same direction. According to his report, the source code was made to look like a legitimate extension API rapper but it allowed website to inject JavaScript code into every web page a user views.

The main motto of this extension was to display paid ads and sponsor links sponsored by third-party companies. It was also held responsible for stealing sensitive information from the host PC.

The activation time of the code was 24 hours after the installation of the extension into the PC there are many such extensions that were doing the same task of stealing sensitive information and hijacking the system of the host. Wladimir Palant quoted around 34 malicious Google Chrome extensions and those extensions have been removed by Google from the Google web store.

  • Autoskip for Youtube – 9 million active users
  • Soundboost Extension – 6.9 million active users
  • Crystal Ad block – 6.8 million active users
  • Brisk VPN – 5.6 million active users
  • Clipboard Helper – 3.5 million active users
  • Maxi Refresher – 3.5 million active users

Google Quoted:

“We take security and privacy claims against extensions seriously, and when we find extensions that violate our policies, we take appropriate action.”

“The Chrome Web Store has policies in place to keep users safe that all developers must adhere to,

 

Note: Google has removed all these extensions but this doesn’t mean that these extensions will be automatically deleted. You need to manually remove these extensions from Google Chrome.
