If you have used Snapchat then you must be aware of the Bitmojis feature. These Bitmojis make the chat more fun and interesting. Apple also has its Memojis. So, this competition between the tech giants started sometime back.
How could Facebook Stay behind? It created the avatars feature last year. Following the social media trend, you too must have created your own Avatar on Facebook. Meta ( formerly Facebook) has now introduced the Instagram 3D avatar feature.
With Instagram 3D avatars, you can send different 3D avatars to your friends through direct messages or add them in your stories.

Instagram 3D Avatar Feature for Stories and DM
Facebook was already having the 3D avatar feature but those avatars have also been updated with the launch of Instagram 3D avatar features. Check out the official statement of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg:
“We’re updating Meta avatars with a lot more expressions, faces and skin tones, as well as wheelchairs and hearing aids,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement.
“We’re starting to experiment with digital clothing too. You can use your avatar across Quest, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. One day you’ll have multiple avatars ranging from expressive to photorealistic. Looking forward to sharing more soon,” Zuckerberg added.
The launch of Instagram 3D Avatars was announced by General Manager Aigerim Shorman ( GM for Avatars and Identity) on the official blog of Meta (formerly known as Facebook)
“Since revealing our long-term vision of the metaverse at Connect 2021, we’ve continued building out this next evolution of social technology, building towards a future where you can sit in the same room as loved ones who are actually thousands of miles away or work naturally with a talented team that spans the globe.”
Some of the key points from his statement are here:
1. They want people to interact and communicate in a better way through avatars, so they are adding new facial shapes and assistive devices for people with disabilities.
2. Meta has also partnered with the NFL so users can outfit their avatar to support the Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams.
3. The avatars for Facebook and Facebook Messenger have also been updated and will start rolling out soon. For the first time, Instagram Stories and DMs are getting the feature of Instagram 3D avatars (currently available only for people living in the United States, Canada, and Mexico)
